Dorothy Carroll was born on May 15, 1909, in Kentucky, a daughter of George B. Carroll and Nancy Jane Canterbury Carroll. Dorothy’s siblings were Walter John “Stubby” Carroll, Harry L. Carroll and Annette “Nettie” Carroll Freeman.
Her father George B. Carroll was born on April 19, 1862, in Carter County, Ky., a son of John Carroll and Nancy Damron Carroll. George died on July 3, 1931, in Ashland. Her mother Nancy Canterbury Carroll was born on Dec. 17, 1867, in Gallia County, Ohio, a daughter of Levi Canterbury and Jane Luman Canterbury. (Name variations: In a handwritten family record, Nancy Canterbury Carroll spelled her maiden name as Canterberry. In some family documents, her mother Jane Luman Canterberry’s given name was Tabitha Jane or Nancy Jane.)
Dorothy worked for many years at Armco Steel in Ashland. She died on Jan. 25, 1978, in Ashland, Boyd County, Ky.
Dorothy either took or collected photos and placed them in several albums that were handed down to her grand-nephew James Barker Carroll. She labeled all of the photos which makes these albums a genealogical treasure.
